Is chivalry really dead?

A strange encounter with a very cheerful bus driver this week got me thinking about the below…

There is simply nothing more attractive than a gesture of kindness or an indication of good mannerisms. This may be foreign for some as nowadays we command simple courtesy, one that should be standard.

Passengers were confused (including myself) when the driver individually greeted each person as they stepped on the bus. Half way through the journey he apologised loudly for being ‘cheerful and polite’ – but why was it such an odd thing?

To think we live in a society where politness could be portrayed as a sign of weakness and friendliness as way of flirting is poor. Subsequently dear man, opening a door could really take you far, and dear woman, always carry yourself like a lady, in a tough world being delicate surely sets you apart!

The John Lennon Wall

IMG_6326

Prague is a fairytale destination; beautiful & classic but also youthful. It’s the John Lennon wall which contributes to the funk of the city. Symbolising freedom and rebellion against the communist regime in the 1980’s, it’s now one of the coolest sites to visit.

Covered in graffiti, it’s so facinating to see how many personal memories and friendship moments are documented in lyric and words. Some may call him odd but he wanted nothing more than equality, peace and freedom for all and so this landmark is filled with messages of love, hope, and good times.

The complexity of his mind would be interesting to study, although I believe that he found his personal freedom in Yoko Ono as controversial as it was. It is true what the Beatles say,”if you love somebody, you can’t be with them enough”.

Milano City

IMG_5639.JPG
There is always something different about Italy, each city is a walking museum and is historical yet modern. People are loud, stylish with a little edge; it’s relaxed and carefree.

This year I’ve chosen Milan city for my Italian destination. This may sound strange but I feel as though it’s Rome’s ‘cooler’ sister. They have a lot of similarities in terms of beautiful churches, historical streets and artwork but Milan’s shopping district and street music feels younger, edgier, and more on the badass side if I may call it.

Depending on your type this is probably the younger city, I can rap about it and say “Bring your gang of friends or you lover and run a muck in Milan”, but call me old fashioned when I say that my heart is set on Rome and when my heart is set on Rome it is Rome that I choose for the ultimate Italian destination.
