Little to know about the South of Italy ..

As of late, the ‘Amalfi Coast’ often circulates in conversation as soon as the country Italy is mentioned. It’s undoubtedly gorgeous and it is essential that you try and make your way there some time or another. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen, it’s hard to believe that places like that even exist, God is magic.

The biggest dilemma before getting there is where to stay ? We asked around for recommendations and the general response is “It’s all nice, it’s the same” – well no. After visiting Positano (where we stayed), The Amalfi Coast, Ravello and Capri here is exactly what you should do …

The Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast itself is beautiful, however; it’s a little marketing campaign for the Italians. It generalises the entire coast because it’s designed to be the hub of transport and transit for the area. The town is bigger, busier and it’s perfect for young people to chill by the beach. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still breathtaking but if you’re after some colourful views here’s where to stay …

Positano, Italy

Positano, wow. First of all, the fact that we made the right choice was everything, but most of all the views you see in the picture above was from our own room balcony – a scene that I’d like to wake up to everyday.

The place is just as you imagine it and more. It’s busy with tourist, yet not overkill. It has a perfectly sized town with shops, great restaurants and of course a beach. I strongly recommend that you stay there to get the overall experience of the colourful houses, water and hills and it’s also centre to all of the above Islands mentioned with just an hour drive or boat ride away.

Wait a minute, now, since we have stayed in Positano, the next time around we’ll be staying in  Capri … WHY?

Capri, Italy

An elegant and classy Island, it’s much like the South of France. Just a boat ride away from Positano, we  took a day trip to Capri and spent few hours deciding on when we should come back (I’ll be pushing on that). It’s large and full of things to do, what I loved most is how fancy it is, it’s people are so chic, it’s fabulous.

By far, it’s the most expensive and it is a little prestige. The centre is surrounded by fancy restaurants and of course your designer brand shops so it’s ideal for shopping, relaxing and looking out at sea views – what more could you want?

The truth is, this was my sister’s dream, a place that her and I were meant to see together. I’ve promised her that we’d come back and experience Capri in fours, as for the husbands, well you know what they say, a happy wife equals a happy life.

Ah Roma,

20231937_10159189541970235_5599661716025419219_o

What the eye sees first it always remembers
Rome was my initial glance at Europe, it holds to be my favourite city
Why do I like it most?

Perhaps it’s the sense of familiarity, or it’s aura
Or maybe it’s character and it’s people’s loud nature
The food is delicious and made with love; it’s touch of old and tradition is inspiring

It’s a sassy city, it’s men and women are well dressed
Their dark skin against their white cotton clothing and scattered Jewellery excites me
It’s an understated classy, not as snobby and straight A as Paris, a city with attitude, roughness and oomph

I love Gelato, it’s a treat that I can have for breakfast, lunch and dinner, also brunch and every time I want something to munch
It’s buildings are grand, you walk the city as though you’re walking through history
The Vatican City itself is something else, I’d do it no justice if I attempted to describe it

If you’re planning to visit anytime soon then consider yourself lucky, I’ve just done the hard work for you:
  • Comfortable shoes are a must, but keep it stylish – it’s a crime to let ease over looks take priority.
  • Walk around the city, every street is different, every corner has a huge building with history that interest those that are not even interested.
  • The Vatican City, Museum and Sistine Chapel are a must, waaaaw.

Now, let’s take a pit stop for food ..

  • Prepare to CARB LOAD, a term that makes me uncomfortable but you cannot escape it, so let’s make it worthwhile:

    – For traditional Pasta you must visit Trattoria Da Enzo, a really popular restaurant, one I recommend you book in advance to avoid the long wait, trust me you will be waiting.
    – For traditional Pizza, visit Pizzeria Ai Marmi, very casual but delicious!

  • Gelatoooooooo, yes. Take my word when I tell you that we tried every good Gelato in the city, here are the best well known, best ranked and most delicious:

    – Gelato Giolitti ( The oldest Gelato place in Rome)
    – Fatamorgana Gelato
    – Gelato Di san Crispino
    – Gelato Del Teator

If I was born Italian I’d say Rome’s mid city feels like home, but awkwardly enough I’m not.
Third time lucky, forth is what I look forward to.
I call it crazy love ❤

Ahlan from Marrakech

I have waited a long time to visit this place, a city I associate with cultural depth and pretty colours, a place where I pictured myself as SJP, a dream I’m finally living in the heart of Marrakech, Morocco.

After spending two days here, the notion that Marrakech is an exotic place I’ve learned is far from the truth. It’s an idea portrayed to the Western world to encourage tourism, an industry that this country aims to build as it’s number one source of income over the next few years.

What I found most appealing is that from speaking to locals we were able to get an insight and an understanding if you may of how the city came about. As chaotic as it seems, the neighbourhood is really tight, it’s people are warm and friendly, their architecture is designed in a way to promote humbleness and simplicity from the outside (your interior home can depend on your wealth), an idea that wealth cannot define you nor differentiate you from the community, it’s an equal ground.

There’s much to do and see here. The new city is nice to visit, but I encourage you to stay in the hub of the old city where you find the markets and the medina and the buzz that you expect to feel.

Overall, this really has been an incredible experience. I much love calligraphy, street art and mosaics, all of which you get to witness around the streets and in particular when visiting the holy places. Tea drinkers, this is your source of heaven!
